Weebly Sucks

So I tried a drag and drop web page editor called Weebly. I run an online English academy and it was my hosting service 'Fatcow' who offered the service free. I decided to test it out and made a silly little page just to check out its features.  To my shock and dismay, the Weebly app over wrote all my site's files to place Weebly code in most of my documents. In addition, it replaced my homepage with the Weebly page I created which as I mentioned, was really just a joke.

With my site now down, I contacted Fatcow who refused to help me. It took me two months to get it deleted and get my back-up up and running.  Part of the delay was that I had not used my FTP access in a while and as a result had entered the wrong password more than 3 times which got my IP blacklisted.

I argued with the Fatcow staff that the issue (I didn't know what it was at the time) was on their end. They insisted it was on my end and refused to even check.  Finally I read somewhere that my issue could be caused by this so I asked a rep to check if I am blacklisted for wrong password entries. Sure enough I was, it was reset and after two months I was able to upload my backup.

My site is finally back up but with no thanks to Fatcow. I am very disappointed with the service and support they offered me in this critical time.

Anyone having problems with video not working in Windows 8.1?  I finally fixed mine.
If you have any hardware from Nvidia then you may have a conflict.  Open Task Manager and end all tasks (processes) for Nvidia. Do not stop Services.  That should fix the problem!   I also run The 64bit beta version of Mozilla Firefox called Nightly.

Problem:  Videos do not play in Firefox after upgrade to Windows 8.1.
·         Solution:  Open task manager and end tasks for all running Nvidia processes.
This should resolve the issue. *Don’t confuse processes and Services.
(Note: the processes stopped have no noticeable effect on my work or games).

It should be noted that I also...
Installed Nightly – Mozilla Firefox for 64 bit machines
·         Updated drivers
·         Installed K-Lite Codec pack
·         Installed Silverlight
·         Installed Flash Player
·         Installed Shockwave Player
·         Installed Quicktime
·         Installed Firefox plugin for .wmp files
      Windows 8.1 video Issue solved!

Have you ever wanted a tool that can identify the part of speech for each word in a sentence?  Today's find is the "stanford-postagger" tool. This nice tool lets you type or copy and paste any text into a textbox, and then it will tag each word with its part of speech.

The tool is based off of the Penn Treebank tag set.
The tag set is the key for the tags. For example, DT
has been assigned to both the words 'this' and 'a' in the image. The tag set identifies DT as a determiner.

Well, you get the idea.  Here are some links if you care to follow-up on this.

Update: The link seems to be down now so you may have to Google search.

Who has time?

Well, I can see it has been almost 2 years from my last post.  I started this blob as a school project and after school I really let it go.  At this point I am not sure what I want to do with this blog. The title suggests it should be a blog that reveals information on topics that may not be so apparent.  But who has the time to research all that information?  That would be like a full time second job.  Perhaps I should start with a simple goal.  I know, how about making more than 1 post every two years!

Stuffpoint

Just want to share a quick little gem I found online. Stuffpoint.com is a site where you can complete tasks for points that can then be traded in for prizes. There are tasks to complete, websites you can subscribe to, surveys, and a lot more. Please check it out....most of these things you probably already do anyway, like Facebook and Youtube, so why not get points for them.

Take 2

Well, since Facebook, I kind of forgot about this site. It was started as a school project but got left behind after I graduated. Then Facebook came along and I no longer had need for a blog. However, I'm not quite ready to hang it up quite yet. I'll keep it around, just in case.

Mina Ally

Many of my friends and some of my family have not had the chance to meet my wife Mina. So I thought I would post a short video slideshow that I created in a class. I hope this clip will be the first of many. I recently purchased a video camera and hope to post more video soon.

If you would like to subscribe to this blog to keep on top of the updates, you can click on the RSS feed icon in the address bar.

If you would like to learn more about how to create a video blog for yourself, I have prepared a site with various tutorials on projects that include both audio and video content for the web. Each project comes with production notes to guide you through your own project. you can access the page at http://edtech2.boisestate.edu/allyp/583/web/home.htm
